Vern Blackburn The Wurm
Vern Blackburn “The Wurm”…the name pretty much says it all. Firstborn of Lord Raven Blackburn, Vern enjoyed the lavish lifestyle of nobility to its fullest, enjoying riches and the best combat training in all of Arem. However, an early death by Lord Blackburn prematurely left Vern the responsibilities of running the Blackburn household. After a few short years, mismanaged finances and ill-advised business ventures left Blackburn manor with hardly a penny to its name. In addition to financial hardships, Vern’s lack of “courtly” manners earned him the scorn of almost the entire nobility in Nester. Not a man of intricate speech, Vern often preferred to dispense with the pleasantries of negotiation and settle matters out in the field. Vern’s gruff exterior and sometimes brutish mannerism earned him the title “Wurm” from the other nobles who saw him no more fit than to crawl along the ground in the mud and dust. However, Vern’s ability on the battlefield struck fear into the hearts of the Nester nobility. There was nary a man in the entire region surrounding Nester that dared cross “The Wurm.” Using his reputation as an advantage, Vern made a living doing the dirty work for other nobles in exchange for a hansom fee. As Vern’s reputation grew, so did the other nobles resentment of him, but none of them dared venture over to his bad side. To this day, fear of the Wurm keeps the commoners and nobles alike in check. Now, a former client summons Vern and a host of others to Domith, and The Wurm hopes this is his most lucrative venture yet.
“I am Vern Blackburn The Wurm; loved by none, scorned by some, hated by many, feared by all.”
